Bethanie Humphreys

writer, editor, educator, mixed-media visual artist

Bethanie Humphreys is a late-blooming lesbian born in Sacramento, California, and raised in a tiny farm town in the San Joaquin Valley. She is a writer, editor, mixed-media visual artist, and educator. Former Editor-in-Chief for American River Review, andAssociate Editor and Art Director for Tule Review, her poetry, essays, and short fiction have appeared in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and U.K., in The Poetry Foundation, Science Write Now, 3rd Street Review, ArtemisNonbinary Review, Found Poetry Review, and others. Her chapbook, Dendrochronology, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2019.

She served as board member for the Sacramento Poetry Center and co-curator for the SPC Art Gallery from 2015-2020. She has a Bachelors in Spanish from CSU, Sacramento, an Associates in Behavioral Science, and is a Community of Writers Poetry Workshop Alumni, UC California Certified Naturalist, and an Amherst Writers and Artists method certified instructor. She leads various workshops including poetry editing, science poetry, a guided National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) experience, and all-genre AWA-method generative writing.
