Upcoming Workshops

Join me for two Upcoming Workshops: Spring Solace Writing Workshops (a series of one-day AWA style, all genre generative workshops) and NaPoWriMo 2024.

NaPoWriMo 2024: Where Arts Collide

Dear Writers,

In celebration of April’s National Poetry Writing Month, you are cordially invited to participate in NaPoWriMo 2024: Where Arts Collide, an online generative writing workshop. We will receive inspiration from writers who are also artists, writers who incorporate visual art in text, artists who incorporate text in art, poets inspired by art, and art to inspire our poems. No prior art or writing experience required. I am pleased to offer four options for participation:
  1. Asynchronous independent poet option: Receive inspirational materials and prompts delivered to your email every day in April. You can write at your own pace in the privacy of your own writing sanctuary. (No feedback with this option.) Please note, materials are intended for a mature audience. $75
  2. Just-the-writing session(s) on Zoom option: Receive inspirational materials and generative prompts at AWA-style generative writing sessions on Zoom four Tuesdays in April: April 2, 9, 16, 30, from 4:00-6:30 p.m. You can choose to attend one, more than one, or all of them. $25/session, $100/all four
  3. Communal online experience but no-Zoom sessions option: Receive daily inspirational materials and prompts, and participate in the online community on Wet Ink where you can (but are not required to) post daily drafts (doesn’t have to be a “poem,” but no more than one page of prose) and receive support and feedback from peers and instructor. $250
  • The whole shebang option: Receive daily inspirational materials and prompts, participate in AWA-style generative writing sessions on Zoom four Tuesdays in April: April 2, 9, 16, 30, 4:00-6:30 p.m., and participate in the online community on Wet Ink where you can post daily drafts (doesn’t have to be a “poem,” but no more than one page of prose) and receive support and feedback from peers and instructor. $350

If participating in the online community, you are not required to submit a poem every day. This is entirely optional. Responses to other poets’ work is limited to 10 minutes a day—you will be asked to respond to two randomly assigned poems per day, two sentences-a line or phrase that stands out or resonates, and a line of encouragement. The idea is to write, connect, encourage each other, and not get bogged down in the process. The emphasis is on generating new work so we won’t be workshopping or doing any in-depth critiques.

As for Zoom sessions and Wet Ink postings, daily prompts are always optional. Poets may write in response to the prompts, or to whatever inspires them that day. This workshop is an invitation to be steeped in poetry, whether you are writing it, reading and responding to it, or participating in the process of writing, whether “completed” or not.

This workshop is intended for writers at all levels of experience. We will focus on poetry, although many of the prompts could inspire exploration in other genres.

Spring Solace Writing Workshops

Dear Writer,

Daylight is stretching its creaky limbs, blue sky winks from mud puddles, and new green unfurls in our bare deciduous trees. Let’s kick off our winter boots and procrastinate on spring cleaning by writing, instead of the other way around. You are cordially invited to participate in Spring Solace Writing Workshops, a series of one-day, online generative writing workshops via Zoom. You can sign up for one, more than one, or all. At each session, we will begin by reading and briefly discussing one poem, then write in response to craft-driven prompts, or whatever inspires us that day, followed by the opportunity to share your work for gentle feedback, if desired. This workshop is intended for writers at all levels of experience, and in all genres.

The following session dates are available:

Spring Solace Writing Workshop Session 1: March 1, 2024, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Spring Solace Writing Workshop Session 2: March 8, 2024, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Spring Solace Writing Workshop Session 3: March 15, 2024, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Spring Solace Writing Workshop Session 4: March 22, 2024, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Spring Solace Writing Workshop Session 5: March 29, 2024, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The intention of these workshops is to generate new work, which means only gentle feedback will be given, and only on work generated during workshop. In order to create a safe space for new work, we will follow some basic guidelines set forth by the Amherst Writer’s and Artists Method. In order to participate, you will need to ensure the safety of yourself and your fellow workshop participants by agreeing to uphold Amherst Writer’s & Artists Method Safety Practices:

  1. Everyone’s writing is treated with equal respect and value.
  2. Writing is kept strictly confidential. What happens in workshop stays in workshop! If you would like to discuss writing with the author outside of workshop, please ask the author’s permission first.
  3. All work will be treated as fiction. The “I” or “narrator” of a piece is always referred to as the “speaker,” or “narrator,” and never assumed to be the writer.
  4. Workshop discussions will be focused on, and limited to, the writing. In order to honor new work, please refrain from any tangents until outside of workshop.
  5. Responses to just-written work reflect what is strong and what stays with you. Baby drafts needs to be treated with care.

Workshop Specifics:

Registration fee: $25 per session (If money is tight, please ask about scholarships.)

Materials needed: paper and pen, a device with Internet connection

Location: entirely on-line, via Zoom

Space is limited! To register, please let me know which session(s) you are interested in, and confirm space is still available by emailing me at: bethaniehu@hotmail.com

I look forward to writing with you!
